“Where are we, and what day is it?” seems to be a common question we ask ourselves these days. August 27th we left First Baptist Church of Silver Grove and began the adventure of missions and ministry.
Hales in Ministry – October
On the way to Florida, we discovered a few unique places in Kentucky. Breaking up the travel for a little sightseeing made the journey more enjoyable, and quite the adventure.
We drove to Florida for a few days of rest and relaxation and to visit several potential summer missions volunteer sites.

We spent three weeks in Ridgecrest sharing Christ, seeing a young 19-year-old come to Christ; working in the Nibble Nook and meeting hundreds of people attending Ridgecrest for spiritual renewal and fellowship.
While there we were able to reconnect with life-long friends in ministry, Steve and Sammie.
While at Ridgecrest
We drove shuttle, served ice cream, folded towels and sheets, made lattes. frappes, smoothies, and popcorn. We straightened library books, created greeting cards, punched lunch and dinner tickets for guests, did inventory and sold apparel, Bibles, and devotional books from the Roots Retail Store. We attended worship services and heard from missionaries serving in 50 countries. We learned to play “nine hole golf” during slow time at the Nibble Nook. I preached chapel sermons, and washed pots and pans; all this while talking to hundreds of different guests as the opportunity presented itself, about the wonderful grace of Jesus.
We were able to visit the Billy Graham Library, drive to Mt. Mitchell, attend local church services, find time for personal Bible study and sermon preparation, and enjoy amazing “gentle” hikes into the mountains for spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
Ritchie was able to make a four hour trip down to Athens, Georgia to spend the day with high school friends. They chose to do an Escape Room Adventure. By the picture, you’ll notice they did not succeed in escaping. They did however, thoroughly enjoy the day of catching up, eating out, sharing what God is doing in each of their lives, and laughing, a lot!
Where are we, and what day is it? We’re at Shocco Springs Conference Center in Talladega, Alabama….and I THINK it’s October 22, 2019 ???? What we know for certain, “this is the day the lord has made and we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Follow us on the journey and more of our adventures will be shared on FB.
Until next time,
Yours, and HIS,
Sheldon, Ephesians 3:20
